Edinburgh Hostels
Hostel accommodation in Edinburgh is in extremely high demand so you may find you have to book well in advance especially if you are visiting during the festival. Many of the hostels vary their prices seasonally so prices given below are only a rough guide.
Edinburgh Central Hostel
This is a five star hostel near the top of Leith Walk which is just a few minutes walk from Waverley station and Princes Street. It is modern and well-equipped with ensuite rooms ranging from single to twin and up to eight bedded. There is also a licensed bistro and self-catering facilities.
Single rooms are from £15, twin rooms from £37 and family rooms star at £67.
Bus Station Backpackers
This is a small hostel in an extremely central location on Dublin Street right next to St. Andrew bus station and they offer free breakfast and internet access.
They have four bed rooms and prices are around £17 per night.
Backpackers Hostel
This is another extremely central hostel just off Princes Street and close to the bus and train stations. They offer single, twin and dorm rooms and have basic facilities including a TV lounge, internet access, self catering kitchens and a 24 hour shop.
It will cost you £11 per night for a single room, double and twin rooms are £30 per night for two people, triple rooms are £42 per night for three people and quad rooms are £52 per night for four people. If you choose to stay here your seventh night is always free.
St. Christopher´s Inn
This hostel offers free breakfast and has a restaurant and bar. It is centrally located on Market Street a short walk from Princes Street or the Royal Mile.
A bed in a dorm starts from as little as £6.50 per night which is tough to beat but they don´t offer single or double rooms.
Smart City Hostels
This five star hostel has a cafe and is situated on Blackfriars Street just off the Royal Mile. They have 620 beds and their rooms take from two up to twelve people. All rooms are ensuite and there is internet access.
Prices are £6.10 per person per night for a bed in a dorm. You can also get a twin room for £39.95 per night for two people and four bed rooms also start at £39.95 per night for four people.
Cowgate Tourist Hostel
This hostel is situated on the Cowgate in the old town and very central for most tourist attractions with the Royal Mile just a short walk away. They offer apartments which each have kitchen facilities and a TV room and 2, 4 or 6 beds.
Prices start from around £13.50 per person per night.
Budget Backpackers
This hostel is right in the heart of the old town just off the Grassmarket. They offer twin rooms or mixed dorms with 4,6,8,10 or 12 beds. They also offer 4 and 6 bed dorms which are all female. They provide kitchen facilities, shared toilets and showers and a TV lounge.
Prices vary seasonally but you are looking at around £8 per person per night for a bed in a 12 bed dorm, £9 per person per night for a bed in a 10 bed dorm, £10 per person per night for a bed in a 6 or 8 bed dorm, £12 per person per night for a bed in a 4 bed dorm and £22 per person per night for a bed in a twin room.
Castle Rock Hostel
This hostel is on Johnstone Terrace right below Edinburgh castle. They have a patio and garden, a TV lounge, a self catering kitchen and even a pool table.
Prices are £13 per person per night for a dorm room, £40 to £55 for a double or twin room and £30 to £45 for a triple or quad room.
City Centre Guest House
This is on Shandwick Place off the west end of Princes Street and offers double and twin rooms as well as 4, 6 or 8 bed dorms. Facilities are basic and some rooms are ensuite while others are not.
Prices range from around £25 per person per night for a double room to around £10 for a bed in one of the larger dorms.
